They lead you to believe there is no other rat control solution. The young are able to breed before they are four months old. They can transmit these diseases through physical contact, bites, by contamination or by fleas that are feeding on the rodent. They move faster than Norway rats and are very agile climbers, which enables them to quickly escape predators. Roof rats are more aerial than Norway rats in their habitat selection and often live in trees or on vine-covered fences. The great adaptability of rats to human-created environments and the high fertility rate of rats make for quick recuperation of their populations. Rat droppings are small, dark, cylindrically shaped, and are about one-half inch to three-fourths inch long with blunt ends. Pesticides must be registered for rat control by federal and/or state authorities and used in accordance with label directions. Successful long-term rat control is not simple. Tracking powders can be placed in voids behind walls, near points of entry, and in well-defined trails. Dense shrubbery, vine-covered trees and fences, and vine ground cover make ideal harborage for roof rats. Roof rats are not protected by law and can be controlled any time with mechanical or chemical methods. Roof rat droppings are 12 to 13 mm with pointed ends, whereas Norway rat droppings are 18 to 20 mm and capsule shaped. In food-processing and food-storage facilities, roof rats do about the same type of damage as Norway rats, and damage is visually hard to differentiate. Any reputable nuisance wildlife company will have spent money on licensing, liability insurance, and a host of other business expenses. Rats contaminating food or food preparation surfaces can transmit food poisoning. Rats themselves - if you see one rat, there's a good chance there are a bunch more hiding in nests or burrows that you can't see.
