Rodent entry elimination: We see many attempts by handymen, pest control companies, and Oakland County, Michigan rodent extraction companies that do not include the removal of any roofing material. Often the prevention includes the emptying of a can of foam into the void. Without the removal of roofing material, there is no assurance that rodent entry will be eliminated. When we encounter these substandard attempts, we must first remove the previous application.  When this includes foam, the extraction of the foam takes longer than the application of our wire prevention product.

Rodent elimination by those who are not insured exposes you, the Oakland County, Michigan homeowner, to unnecessary liabilities. It is in your best interest to request proof of insurance for worker’s compensation and public liability before work begins on your roof. It’s doubtful that you will find these companies or individuals carry such insurance.  Those who do not often work in this environment typically cannot afford expensive roofing insurance.

  • What Are Rats?

  • Do rats destroy insulation in an attic?

These can be identified by the brown smudges of grease that comes from the rat's fur, and should all be sealed to prevent future rat infestations in the attic. There are two basic methods of rat population reduction: Roof Rats are commonly called black rats and are smaller than Norway rats. Bubonic plague was a scourge in Europe several times throughout history. They are often found living on the second floor of a warehouse in which Norway rats occupy the first or basement floor. Emphasis should be placed on the removal of as much harborage as is practical. Timing a sealup for rats is impossible, because they leave for short periods, and they don't all leave at the same time of night. Touch is an important sense in rats. Some of the more important non-chemical methods are: Then they return to the attic. Rats rely more on their keen senses of smell, taste, touch, and hearing than on vision.

Trapping is the preferred method of indoor control. The Norway rat is also called brown rat, house rat, sewer rat, and wharf rat. Liquid baits may be an effective alternative in situations where normal baits are not readily accepted, especially where water is scarce or where rats must travel some distance to reach water. This means there are no more rats to feed on it because they are dead. It has often been said that Norway rats will displace roof rats whenever they come together, but the evidence is not altogether convincing. Tunnel boxes or bait boxes specially designed to expose a layer of toxic powder will reduce potential contamination problems and may actually increase effectiveness. Any reputable nuisance wildlife company will have spent money on licensing, liability insurance, and a host of other business expenses. Trichinosis may be contracted through eating undercooked meat of animals that have fed on rats. It is found in every state. Tracking powders. If roof rats are seen exposed, it often indicates their hiding spaces are all filled by other rats or that they have been disturbed, such as by construction.

Norway rats build their nests in underground burrows where they mate, rear their young, store food and seek refuge from predators. METHOD OF CONTROL: First of all, mothballs or ammonia won't make them leave, nor will ultrasonic sound emitters or strobe lights. They often eat all the pulp from oranges while the fruit is still hanging on the tree, leaving only the empty rind. The commercially available, expanded plastic treadle traps, such as the Victor Professional Rat Trap, are particularly effective if properly located in well-traveled paths. Control of roof rat damage in agriculture represents yet another scenario. Various sounds that indicate rodent activity include gnawing, scratching, and digging noises. The wildlife operator will seal shut all the rat entry points, and that's the ONLY way to solve a rat problem forever.
