The common wooden snap traps that are effective for Norway rats are effective for roof rats. Most rats in attics enter via roof entry points - although they can get into the building a variety of ways. For further information see Norway Rats. Bait stations are sometimes difficult to place for roof rat control because of the rodents’ overhead traveling characteristics. The traditional style snap traps are still among the best ways of dealing with a rat problem, and these are simple to set and bait, and you should look to place them in areas where the rats are active, so where you can see feces and smudges on the walls.
